With 25 Pounds of Butter, a site-specific piece about the threshold of baking, Leanne Shapton creates a play on the butter sculpture, in wood and house paint. The piece is comprised of her daughter’s toy blocks, painted in various shades of butter yellow.

Leanne Shapton is an artist, author and publisher based in New York City. She is the author of Important Artifacts and Personal Property from the Collection of Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris, Including Books, Street Fashion, and Jewelry and Swimming Studies, which won the 2012 National Book Critics Circle award for autobiography. Sunday Night Movies —a book of paintings made from movie stills— was published by Drawn & Quarterly, fall 2013. Shapton most recently published Women In Clothes, with Sheila Heti and Heidi Julavits, about how women dress, in 2014 and her first children’s book, Toys Talking, was published in May 2016.
