Michael Levine
Climb and Change

18.09.09 – 27.10.09

Michael Levine, in collaboration with Anna Silverstein, presents us with a visual narrative for these anxious times. Climb and Change is a play on the words ‘Climate Change’. A man climbs a ladder made of recycled paper in a feeble attempt to change a light bulb while the ladder continually sprouts new rungs beneath him.

Michael Levine lives in Toronto and has worked internationally as a set and costume designer for the past 29 years. He studied stage design at The Central School of Art and Design in London and his work has been honoured with a Gemini Award, Paris Critics Prize, The Edinburgh Festival Drama and Music Award, Two Dora Awards and a Toronto Arts Award. Michael is a Chevalier des Arts et Lettres in France.

Anna Silverstein lives and works in Toronto. She currently assists Michael Levine in his Toronto studio making models and conducting research for various productions. She has travelled the world and lived in Vienna, Austria for a number of years working for an installation artist and a lamp maker. She continues to work in collaboration with artists, dancers, and musicians.
